When my husband and I moved into our new home, safety was one of our biggest priorities.<\/p>\n
The neighborhood was quiet, but after hearing stories about package thefts and break-ins, we decided to install a few security cameras around the property. One of them faced our living room, mainly to keep an eye on the front entrance whenever we were traveling.<\/p>\n
After a few months, I barely thought about the cameras anymore.<\/p>\n
My husband, David, worked long hours as a project manager while I ran my small online business from home.<\/p>\n
Everything seemed perfectly ordinary.<\/p>\n
Or so I thought.<\/p>\n
One Friday afternoon, I left for a weekend conference in another city.<\/p>\n
David couldn\u2019t come because he had several important meetings scheduled.<\/p>\n
We hugged goodbye, and I promised I\u2019d call him once I arrived.<\/p>\n
The first evening passed without anything unusual.<\/p>\n
We talked on the phone before bed.<\/p>\n
He told me he was ordering takeout and planned to watch a movie before going to sleep.<\/p>\n
Everything sounded completely normal.<\/p>\n
The next morning, while checking notifications on my phone, I noticed an alert from our home security system.<\/p>\n

Normally I ignored those alerts because they were usually caused by one of our pets.<\/p>\n
Out of curiosity, I opened the recording.<\/p>\n
David walked into the living room carrying several large boxes.<\/p>\n

He had mentioned ordering new shelves for the garage.<\/p>\n
Then something unexpected happened.<\/p>\n
Instead of unpacking the boxes, he carefully moved the coffee table aside and began measuring different parts of the room.<\/p>\n

Measured the windows.<\/p>\n
Even looked at the ceiling.<\/p>\n
For a moment I wondered if he was planning a surprise renovation.<\/p>\n
An hour later, another motion alert appeared.<\/p>\n
This time he returned carrying buckets of paint, brushes, rollers, and a toolbox.<\/p>\n
By the afternoon, our entire living room had become a construction zone.<\/p>\n
He spent hours repairing small cracks in the walls I hadn\u2019t even noticed before.<\/p>\n
Later that evening he assembled new bookshelves, installed modern lighting, and completely rearranged the furniture.<\/p>\n
I couldn\u2019t believe what I was watching.<\/p>\n
For months I had casually mentioned wanting to update the room.<\/p>\n
David always replied that he was too busy.<\/p>\n
Apparently he had been secretly planning everything.<\/p>\n
The following morning brought even more surprises.<\/p>\n
A delivery truck arrived with several large packages.<\/p>\n
David accepted them and carried everything inside.<\/p>\n
The camera captured him carefully hanging framed photographs from our vacations, replacing old curtains with new ones, and placing fresh flowers throughout the room.<\/p>\n
Then came the biggest surprise.<\/p>\n
He disappeared for nearly two hours before returning with both of our parents.<\/p>\n
Soon afterward my sister, his brother, several close friends, and even our elderly neighbors arrived carrying food and decorations.<\/p>\n
Everyone worked together transforming the house.<\/p>\n
Balloons appeared.<\/p>\n
Lights were hung across the ceiling.<\/p>\n
The dining table filled with homemade dishes.<\/p>\n
I watched in complete disbelief.<\/p>\n
Only then did I remember.<\/p>\n
Our tenth wedding anniversary was just two days away.<\/p>\n
Somehow, despite everything happening in life recently, I had completely forgotten.<\/p>\n
David hadn\u2019t.<\/p>\n
That evening he stood alone in the finished room, looking around to make sure everything was perfect.<\/p>\n
He smiled toward the family photo hanging above the fireplace.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope she loves it,\u201d he quietly said to himself.<\/p>\n
For the first time that weekend, I started crying.<\/p>\n
Not because something terrible had happened.<\/p>\n
