Las piedras en la garganta que nadie espera: qué son los tonsilolitos y cómo eliminarlos

Los tonsilolitos (piedras en las amígdalas) son pequeñas masas blancas o amarillas que se forman cuando restos de comida, bacterias y células muertas quedan atrapados en las cavidades de las amígdalas y se calcifican. No suelen ser peligrosos, pero pueden causar mal aliento, molestia al tragar, tos e irritación de garganta.

Aparecen con más frecuencia en personas con criptas amigdalinas profundas, infecciones repetidas o higiene bucal deficiente.

Para prevenirlos se recomienda buena higiene oral, cepillar dientes y lengua, usar hilo dental, enjuague y tomar suficiente agua.

Los pequeños pueden salir solos; si son grandes o recurrentes, debe retirarlos un profesional. En casos severos, se evalúa quitar las amígdalas.
